Aplos Technologies was founded by a group of experienced professionals from Ellington Management with a singular mission: to solve the complexities of whole loan operations. Recognizing the inefficiencies and challenges that organizations face in managing whole loans, Aplos set out to create innovative, streamlined solutions that simplify and automate these critical processes.

Leadership Team

Nick Vranos

CEO

Nick Vranos is the CEO of Aplos, overseeing all aspects of product development and technical strategy. A seasoned engineer with a deep understanding of financial markets, he has a proven track record of building and scaling high-performance systems. Before founding Aplos, Nick spent 10+ years at Ellington, where he transitioned from a quantitative portfolio management role to lead the firm's technology initiatives. He played a pivotal role in designing and implementing Ellington's second-generation whole loan management tools and modernizing their software development practices. Earlier in his career, Nick worked at FactSet Research Systems, where he focused on data integration and statistical analysis. He holds a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Dan Noone

COO

Dan Noone is the COO of Aplos, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and leading the market launch of the whole loan system, OWLS. His deep understanding of whole loan operations and asset management stems from his previous role as Managing Director at Blackstone, where he played a pivotal role in building the insurance solutions operations team and infrastructure. This experience, coupled with over 15 years of consulting experience in private equity, hedge fund, and insurance, will help drive the Aplos platform to be the best-in-class system for whole loans. Dan has a BA degree from Hobart College.

Bill McFarlane

Director of Product

Bill McFarlane is the Director of Product at Aplos, where he oversees the development and implementation of key features and functionality. He collaborates closely with clients to understand their unique reporting, process, and data requirements, ensuring the platform aligns with their specific needs and system integrations. Before joining Aplos, Bill spent twelve years at Ellington, gaining invaluable insights into the complexities of back-office operations and financial systems. He was instrumental in designing, implementing and supporting systems that streamlined reconciliations, valuations, and investor reporting across the firm. Bill holds a degree in Accounting, Information Systems, and Finance from Boston College's Carroll School of Management.

Tim McCarthy

Vice President, Engineering

Tim McCarthy is a Vice President and senior engineer lead at Aplos, focused on driving product advancements to support complex processes. His technical expertise spans the full software stack to deliver cutting-edge solutions. Before joining Aplos, Tim played a pivotal role at Ellington Management Group, supporting front-office technology initiatives across diverse asset classes, including Non-QM, Residential Transition Loans, and Agency Specified Pools. He also contributed to firmwide risk, liquidity, and capital management processes. Earlier in his career, at Shelter Growth Capital Partners, Tim was deeply involved in loan pricing, cashflow modeling, and securitization structuring. Tim holds a Finance degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Menelaos Ioannou

Lead UI Engineer

Menelaos 'Mikey' Ioannou is the Lead UI Engineer at Aplos, specializing in front-end application development. They bring a wealth of experience to the team, having worked on a wide range of software projects, from Android app development to full-stack web applications. Before joining Aplos, Mikey spent seven years at Google, where they collaborated with developers in the Android Enterprise ecosystem and led the Android Enterprise Recommended Program. They also honed their skills at B&H Photo Video, Hello Alfred, and Lutron Electronics, contributing to the development of enterprise software applications. Mikey holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Cognitive Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
